Variance Process
The applicant sets up a meeting with the city planner to discuss the specific issues surrounding the request. At the conclusion of this meeting, the applicant must pay the $185 application fee if he/she chooses to proceed with the application.
The planner then assembles an information packet on the issue (including a site plan) and notifies all property owners within 300 feet of the applicant’s property of the variance application.
The applicant formally presents the variance request and answers questions at the Board of Adjustment hearing, which is typically held on the fourth Tuesday of every month.
If the request is denied, it is possible for the applicant to appeal this decision to the Board of City Commissioners. If approved, parties against the variance may file an appeal.
