Project: 2nd Avenue N Reconstruction
On Tuesday, August 15, contractors for the City of Fargo’s 2nd Avenue North Reconstruction and Water Main Replacement Project are scheduled to begin phase two of the project. The second phase will start on the next section of roadway removals and underground work occurring in downtown Fargo. This is the last stretch of roadway involved in this infrastructure improvement project.
For a brief period of time, the first and second phases will overlap and 2nd Avenue North will be closed to traffic from west of Roberts alley to the 7th Street North intersection. After the reconstruction work on sidewalks and final project needs for the roadway are complete on the east portion, the work zone will tighten up to just east of Roberts Street intersection.
Between Roberts alley and the Roberts Street intersection, pedestrian access is maintained in the curb/street parking area on 2nd Avenue North roadway. Crews have removed the old north and south side sidewalks and working on reconstructing new pedestrian path on both sides of the block. The new water main and storm sewer pipes have been installed along 2nd Avenue North from the Roberts alley through the intersection of Roberts Street North as well as a majority of the upgrades to private utilities. Next week, crews will begin paving operations on the Roberts Street intersection.
The initial traffic pattern will be:
- 2nd Avenue N: CLOSED from west of Roberts alley to 7th Street North intersection, traffic detoured around the work zone via 1st Avenue North.
- Roberts Street Intersection: CLOSED to traffic in all directions
- 7th Street N: CLOSED to through traffic
- Roberts alley: OPEN to traffic in all directions
Once the traffic pattern is tightened up to west of Roberts Street intersection, the traffic pattern will be:
- 2nd Avenue North: CLOSED from west of Roberts Street intersection to 7th Street North intersection, traffic detoured around the work zone via 1st Avenue North.
- Roberts Street Intersection: CLOSED to traffic in all directions
- 7th Street North: CLOSED to thru traffic
- Roberts and Gravers alleys: OPEN to traffic in all directions
Access to the Roberts Commons parking ramp is maintained from the north via Roberts Street.
Street parking is currently reduced but sidewalks are maintained on the north and south side of 2nd Avenue North, providing access to local businesses and the post office throughout the whole project.
Both phases of the project are scheduled to be completed by late October.
