Downtown Road Closures Scheduled for Mural Installation

The closures are expected to last from Sunday, July 6, until Friday, July 11

07/03/2025

Beginning at 6 a.m. on Sunday, July 6, the installation of a mural on the intersection of 2nd Avenue North and 5th Street North will have the following traffic impacts:

• No through traffic will be allowed on 5th Street North between 1st and 3rd Avenues North.
• No through traffic will be allowed on 2nd Avenue North between Broadway and 4th Street North.
• The Radisson Hotel parking ramp will be accessible from 4th Street North, and the RDO Building parking ramp will be accessible from 3rd Avenue North.

The nonprofit group Folkways received an AARP grant to install the mural – a colorful, large-scale pattern that reflects the region’s landscape – on the street surface of the intersection, using an epoxy product. The project aims to create a vibrant piece of art that promotes neighborhood engagement as well as safety for pedestrians and vehicles.

Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and use alternate routes during the closures. The roads are expected to fully reopen by the end of the day Friday, July 11, in time for the opening day of the Red River Market on Saturday, July 12.
