It’s always a guessing game when unpacking last year’s holiday lights – do they still work? If your lights are burned out or if you just don’t need them anymore, you don’t have to throw them away. Residents are encouraged to take advantage of the free Holiday Lights Recycling Program.

“We’re always looking for ways to divert recyclable items from the landfill. This program allows elements in the lights to be recycled and not end up in the landfill,” said The City of Fargo’s Recycling Supervisor Jennifer Pickett.

Residents can drop string lights, including new-style LED lights and older styles with small screw-in lights, at the Household Hazardous Waste Facility at 606 43 1⁄2 St. N., between 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Rope lights cannot be recycled. The Holiday Light Recycling Program will be available now through January 31, 2019.
