Zone: Downtown
Project: Main Avenue Reconstruction Project

By early morning Friday, July 3, the North Dakota Department of Transportation (NDDOT) and the City of Fargo contractors will open Main Avenue from Broadway to west of the 7th Street South intersection to local traffic. Parallel parking will be available on both sides of the newly opened section of roadway.

Once traffic control is updated, motorists can expect the following traffic pattern:

  • Main Avenue will be open to local traffic between Broadway to west of 7th Street South
  • Main Avenue will remain closed to traffic between University Drive to west of 7th Street South
  • Pedestrian and business access will be maintained
  • Speeds will be reduced to 25 mph where traffic control is present

Next week, crews will continue installation of sanitary sewer lines throughout the fourth traffic impact area, as well as begin pouring concrete over the new metal grid deck for the bridge. Crews are working to complete pavement markings and permanent sign installation between University Drive and the 10th Street South underpass.

Pedestrian access is maintained on the south side of Main Avenue between the 10th Street South underpass and 7th Street South. Access is maintained on both sides of Main Avenue between University Drive and the 10th Street South underpass as well as from 7th Street South to Broadway.

Local access is maintained to all the north side businesses located in the project zone by use of 1st Avenue North to adjacent side streets. Motorists can then cross north or south over Main Avenue via 11th Street South.

Drivers should plan to use the posted detour route to cross the Red River into Moorhead until project work is complete in mid-October. The posted detour route north of Main Avenue is 1st Avenue North and south of Main Avenue is 1st Avenue South between University Drive to 2nd Street South.

The NDDOT and the City of Fargo urge motorists to always be attentive, drive with caution and never enter a road blocked with barriers or cones stating, “road closed.”
