Fargo Residents Encouraged to Consider Applying for Police Advisory & Oversight Board

The City is seeking seven community members to serve on the newly-created board

The City of Fargo is soliciting Statements of Interest from community members who desire to serve on the Fargo Police Advisory & Oversight Board. Community members will be selected to serve among other committee members from various entities. Those interested in being a member of the board are encouraged to complete a Statement of Interest form found at FargoND.gov/FPDBoard.

The Board shall consist of no more than seven (7) members appointed to four year terms by the Board of City commissioners. No more than one (1) member may have served in a former law enforcement role at any time. Membership of the Board will reflect the diversity of the residents of The City of Fargo including, but not limited, to ethnicity, race, gender, religion, sexual orientation, disability, socio-economic and age.

Members of the Board shall serve a term of four years. In order to establish staggered terms, initial appointments will include four (4) members for a four-year term, and three (3) members for a three-year term. Thereafter, all members shall be appointed for a four-year term. No member shall serve more than three terms, or 12 years, whether or not consecutive. Board members selected shall be individuals with an interest in police and/or community relations and should possess all qualifications outlined in this ordinance.

The application review process will begin on Jan. 27, 2022, and will remain open until all positions on the board have been filled. Finalists of the applicant pool are subject to background checks prior to serving on the board.
