Historic Preservation Commission - July 20, 2021 Minutes

The Regular Meeting of the Board of Historic Preservation Commissioners of the City of Fargo, North Dakota, was held in the Commission Chambers at City Hall at 8:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 20, 2021.

The Historic Preservation Commissioners present or absent were as follows:

Present: Heather Fischer, Matthew Boreen, Paul Gleye, Mike Dawson, Nathan Larson, Jay Nelson

Absent: Christine Kloubec

Chair Fischer called the meeting to order and welcomed Members to the meeting.

Item 1: Minutes: Regular Meeting of March 16, 2021
Member Gleye moved the minutes of the March 16, 2021 Historic Preservation Commission meeting be approved. Second by Member Dawson. All Members present voted aye and the motion was declared carried.

Item 2: Historic Overlay District Review
a. 317 University Drive South – Jefferson Historic Overlay: APPROVED
Planner Kylie Bagley presented the application for and exterior remodel of the existing building.

Applicant Tom O’Keefe addressed questions from the Board regarding the proposed siding, replacement of the front door, window and door trim, and matching the existing brick.

Discussion continued highlighting the importance of maintaining the City’s Historic Preservation guidelines for this property.

Mr. O’Keefe requested approval to continue with the siding remodel, and to investigate suggested options for replacement of the door to present at the next meeting.

Member Gleye moved to request Mr. O’Keefe present at the next meeting a revised plan for the door that maintains the historic character of the building, and to proceed with the siding as proposed. Second by Member Larson. All Members present voted aye and the motion was declared carried.

Item 3: Liaison Reports
Member Nelson provided an update from the May 19, 2021 Renaissance Zone Authority meeting.
