Housing & Redevelopment Authority

The Housing and Redevelopment Authority is comprised of six members appointed for three-year terms. Ordinance 33-0104 provides the Mayor will appoint members of the Board and they must be residents of the City of Fargo, and Ordinance 33-0105 states the Board of City Commissioners shall approve or reject said appointments.

North Dakota Century Code Chapter 23-11 contains the Housing Authorities Law. Section 23-11-05 deals with the appointment, qualifications, tenure and compensation of the Commissioners of the Authority. Section 23-11-11 outlines the powers of the Authority.

On March 23, 1976, Ordinances were adopted abolishing the Urban Renewal Agency and the Housing Authority and creating the Housing and Redevelopment Authority to assume the rights, duties, responsibilities, debts and liabilities of the two boards.

On September 26, 1994 a new Ordinance was adopted changing the number of members on the HRA from seven to five members. All Members were reappointed at that time.

On September 26, 2005 an Ordinance was adopted changing the number of members of the HRA from five to six members. A request had been received from the Housing and Redevelopment Authority to increase the membership to six.

Fargo Municipal Code 33-0107 provides that any action taken by the Housing and Redevelopment Authority may be rescinded by the City Commission within 30 days of the date of such action
