During Monday night's City Commission meeting, we recognized the retirement of K-9 Blue and the service he provided alongside Sgt. Sam Bollman of The Fargo Police Department. Sgt. Bollman has been part of Fargo’s K-9 program for over a decade, starting in a support role before taking on the responsibility of handling his own partner, Blue. Like many K-9 teams, their partnership was built over time through training, trust and daily work together.

Serving as a K-9 handler is a significant commitment that extends beyond the officer to their entire family. K-9 Blue was not only a working partner but also became part of Sgt. Bollman’s home life, reflecting the unique bond that develops through this demanding role.

At the end of 2025, K-9 Blue officially retired and transitioned into life as a family pet with Sgt. Bollman, following standard department practice. His retirement marks the close of a successful chapter for Fargo’s K-9 program, and the City of Fargo extends its gratitude to both K-9 Blue and Sgt. Bollman for continuing a tradition of professionalism, trust and service to our community.
