The City of Fargo to Celebrate Arbor Day on Friday, May 22

Students from Carl Ben Eielson Middle School will plant trees at Anderson Park Softball Complex

05/20/2026

The City of Fargo Forestry Department, Fargo Park District and River Keepers will celebrate Arbor Day in partnership with Fargo Public Schools on Friday, May 22, beginning at 9:30 a.m. at the Anderson Park Softball Complex (4200 23rd Ave. S.), across from the Red River Zoo.

The event will begin with a brief program that includes the reading of Fargo’s Arbor Day Proclamation. Following the program, more than 100 students from Carl Ben Eielson Middle School will plant trees throughout the park, alongside City of Fargo and Fargo Park District staff. The event is expected to last about two hours.

The Arbor Day Foundation has named Fargo a 2026 Tree City USA, marking the 49th year Fargo has received this recognition. The Tree City USA program was founded in 1976 to encourage communities to establish and maintain healthy urban forests. Tree City USA recognition is awarded to communities that meet four standards:
• Maintain a tree board or department
• Have a community tree ordinance
• Spend at least $2 per capita on urban forestry
• Celebrate Arbor Day

More information about the Tree City USA program is available at ArborDay.org.
